Take the Southern train - only a little more expensive and a lot faster.

Gatwick is about 30 miles south of London and a bus takes forever. Plus it will drop you at Victoria Coach Station - where are you staying? the Coach station is quite a hike from the tube station if you are schlepping luggage.

I think we will take the southern train to Victoria. How far is the tube from Victoria? We will than take the tube to Paddington. How does that sound? This is our first time in London and I wanted to save money by not taking a cab.

Get Southern trains from Gatwick to Victoria. When you buy your ticket ask for an additional underground day pass. This is only £1 more and will allow you to run around all day on the tube. Total cost around £10. Get the circle line to Paddington from Victoria, about 10 minutes.
Don't take a cab from Gatwick, it will break the bank.

Why are you travelling to Paddington?

If you're catching a train, remember that there are regular trains from Gatwick to Reading, and that virtually all trains from Paddington stop at Reading.

Less scenic (you see an AWFUL lot of back gardens) but avoids hassling with changes and walks.

Yes our hotel is by Paddington. We are using hotel points so you can;t beat free. You have all been a great help with our transportation. I feel very confident. I may have more questions later on other things. thanks so much
