Eastern Europe Itinerary...Please Advice!
We are going to visit Eastern Europe from Salzburg this summer and the places that we want to cover in 9-10 days time are as follows:

Prague, Krumlov, Vienna, Krakow (in Poland), Budapest.

Which itinerary is the best in order to cover the above places (we can omit Vienna but people told me that we have to pass through Vienna if we want to visit Krakow from Krumlov, is it true)? We plan to spend 3 nights in Prague. How should we plan our route? We want to take Budapest as our final stop.

Thanks!

I think the order to go in from Salzburg would be Vienna, Krumlov, Prague, Krakow, before ending in Budapest.

However, you would be rushing things, especially if your stay in Budapest does not extend past the 9-10 days you mention. If it does not, you have six days or so for Vienna, Krumlov, Krakov, and Budapest - when you add in transportation time, you do not have enough time in each city. To even do some justice to the places, you should have (in full days) - three days in Vienna, one in Krumlov, two or three in Krakow, and two or three in Budapest. I would suggest cutting out at least one place.

I have to agree with Howard. Vienna could take at least 5 days, Prague 4, Budapest 4, Krakow 3, Cesky Krumlov 1 and that doesn't include the travel time. Vienna is a great city, but you might check the German rail site at http://bahn.hafas.de to see if you do have to pass through there to get to Krakow from Cesky Krumlov. Use Wien for Vienna.

since you don't have that much time, you might want to consider doing a day tour type thing! i know that you can take a day tour fr. vienna to salzburg, & the same fr. vienna to budahpest. you might want to contact your concierge at the hotel to get more info. on those & other day tours! if you enjoy the cities then maybe you can go back & spend more time in those cities in the future!
