Eastern/Central Europe
Hello,
I am planning a trip to Eastern Europe and not sure which to visit. I was either thinking Budapest, Prague & Krakow or Budapest, Prague, Vienna and Salzburg? I only have around 10 nights for vacation. Which of these cities do you recommend and how many nights in each? Do you recomend a particular Tour company to go to these cities??

Thank You,
Carlos

Why not just go on your own? It is really more fun because you do your own planning and you meet lots of people. You really could do only 2 well but not more than 3. Krakow would take at least 2-3 days and a stop in Zakopane before going to Prague or Budapest. Prague and Budapest need at least 3-4 days each. Vienna could be the substitute for Krakow but there is a lot more to do in Vienna. It is closer to Prague and Budapest.

There has been some interest in a group trip of people from this forum in September which will include Poland (Krakow). Not much is concretely planned, as far as the other destinations you mention.

Search "vlads castle" to find out more about this.

Best wishes,

Rex
Hi, Carlos,
We just returned from 9 days in Vienna and 3 in Prague. Loved them both!
Do your ten days include the first day in and the last day out, or do you have 10 complete days for touring?
If you have the ten full days, I may use 5 in Vienna, early morning train (6:55) to Prague for 2 full days, leaving for Budapest on the third day and staying there until you left for home. There may be a night train between the two. I am unsure of this.
Personally, I like to really enjoy a city and think 2 are enough for your time period.
We saw an opera at each city, both were great! We also went to the Vienna Boys Choir as well as a play at the Burgtheatre. We also took a trip to Melk for the monastery. It was well worth it. Vienna is rich with museums. Have a wonderful time, Carlos!
Gloria
I haven't been to Krakow so can't comment, but have all the other places and they are all great, so it's hard to tell what you should do. I just think that is spreading yourself too thin for 10 days as these places are not that close together (ie, Vienna and Prague). If you want a tour group, I think one of the best (and very reasonable) is Paul Laifer Tours in Central Europe. I think URL is www.laifertours.com. They know that market well.
