Years ago there was a Crepery in the Earls Court area. I think it was on either Hogarth Road or Earls Court Gardens. Anyone know if it is still there? Thanks

We will staying in the area in late May. Any other suggestions for restaurants both budget and expensive. How about food shops, bakeries, etc in the area?

Wish I could help but the only place I remember is the crepe place. I do remember lots of little places but nothing expensive. I do hope you aren't staying at the Rasool Court Hotel Penyworth(sp?), my one and only negative recommendation.

I look forward to hearing back about your trip when you come back. I'm going in later August/early September and will also be staying in Earls Court Area at a hotel called the Amsterdam Hotel. I've never stayed there, but my best friend stayed there last fall and she recommended it to me. She also recommended the area to me because she said that there were alot of restaurants in that area, and since I will be going alone, she thought it would be convenient for me to get food at night if I didn't feel like venturing out farther out.

Anyway, let me know what great spots you find in that area.

There are several restaurants and groceries in the Earls Court area. I can't speak for any of them as we did not eat there but I do remember a bakery right across the street from the tube. We stayed at the Mayflower Hotel in Earls Court which was very convenient and clean.

Lyb, We just returned from Earls Court and we had a great time. The area is very interesting; there are many reasonable restaurants of almost any ethnic food you would want. We ate at family owned Bistro Benito on Earls Court Rd and really enjoyed the "special" dinners for around 6 to 10 pounds. If you walk down Hogarth you will find many popular places from Thai to French.

The side streets are very quiet and very residential. There is a Super Tesco about 4or5 blocks from the Tube on Warwick. We were advised by a local to buy their ?Finest? label ? as it is the same quality as Harrods and Fortnum and Mason ? at considerably less cost. They have a very large prepared meals and deli section that we would have loved to try but we usually ate in the West End/Soho due to plays & shows.

There is a post office across from the tube. Also a small supermarket called Sumerlain or Sommerfiled and fast food type places along Earls Court Rd. Warwick Rd has nothing of interest other than the Tesco.

A tip that I had not seen on the board: Most tube stations have free ?area maps? of the surrounding area. They are usually placed on a wall with other brochures i.e. Thames River cruise schedules. These area maps are very detailed and helpful.

One negative to Earls Court is the lack of convenient buses. The tube is excellent and offers the District and the Piccadilly lines. Other sections of the city have more bus choices. Do try the busses as they allow you to sightsee. We took the 74 (I believe) from Earls Court to the very end at Baker Street Tube and enjoyed the route passed Harrods and around Hyde Park.

We liked the area so much that we scouted out 3-4 other hotels on Trebivir for a future visit.

Thank you so much for your report, sounds like I will like Earl's Court. I'm still in the middle of planning and plotting my days while in London and loved to hear about your time there.

You mention that you scoped out more hotels on Trebovir. That's the street that the hotel I'm staying at is on. I'm staying at the Amsterdam Hotel.

lyb, the Amsterdam is one that we noted for future reference. I believe it is next to or one down from our hotel - My Place hotel. We booked it through a Go-Today package and found it to be a fine budget hotel. However, it had a night club in the basement and the band could be heard even on the 6th floor.

You might want to request a room in the back of the hotel as it will look over the gardens of all the adjoining hotels.

I believe we counted something like 8 hotels on the street.
