From Dublin, you should plan your drive thru Kilkenny - a great Irish town (with castle). Also,
plan on seeing the Rock of Cashel - a fabulous stone castle/church (I believe) on a hill-top. As an aside, and somewhat off the path, if you saw the movie, Circle of Friends (came out in late '95) and enjoyed it, you may want to see the quaint towns of Inishtown and Thomastown where the movie was filmed.

Dear Brigid: My sister and I were in Ireland last November(tho' we drove from Cork to Killarney). We stayed at one hotel in Kinsale (OK but not great) and a wonderful B&B we were told about by the owner of a bookstore in Kenmare--a town I'd go back to in a jaunting car if that was the only conveyance available. Lots of good scenery nearby; Killarney a short, breath-taking drive through the Killarney National Park; and Dingle just beyond (tho' it got dark before we could drive on there that time). The joy of Kenmare is its good restaurants, though--just scrumptious! The Tourist Assn. which has offices in almost every village can give you a list of approved B&Bs and it's the way to see the real Ireland. Have a good trip. Joan

Brigid I spent a couple weeks in that area last June.I agree Cashel is a must see and in the town of Cashel is a very nice B&B called MARYVILLE , it has a view of the"Rock" from the back yard and is within easy walking distance to the ROCK and some other nearby attractions. A good place to base yourself for touring THE RING OF KERRY and DINGLE is the town of TRALEE ,it's centrally located to both and has some nice B&B's as well as an IRISH history center that's worth a visit to get a real feel of what you're seeing on your tours.Have a great time and don't try to cover to much ground, go slow and let it all sink in .
