We're trying to find a Dublin hotel or apartment for 3 nights in July (Wed, Thurs, Fri.), quad occupancy if possible as we're travelling with our 13 and 14 year-old sons. And, here's the catch, one with parking? We may be driving down from Belfast. Haven't firmed this up yet. We've heard the parking situation in Dublin is hopeless and we'd be better off training it in. Our travel agent thinks otherwise. We're hoping for less than $800 for the 3 nights but can work either way some.

They are the former Jury's, Jury's Tower and Berkeley Court hotels - the owner is trying to get planning permission to level them but no luck yet so he's running them as budget-style hotels instead. Location is good in a quiet area with easy access to the city centre and there's plenty of parking.

Parking in Dublin isn't quite hopeless, but it is difficult. Driving in Dublin is difficult for those of us who know the city well, and a real headache for those who do not. A car is a liability in the city. Is there any reason who you should drive? The rail connection between Belfast and Dublin is good.

If you feel that you should take a car, I suggest that you consider staying on the north side of the city for ease of access from Belfast. Suburban hotels generally have plenty of parking space, while those right in the city generally don't.

Quad rooms are not very common in Ireland. You might need to book two rooms, in which case your budget would come under serious pressure.

Have you checked out the accommodation offered at Trinity College in Dublin? They rent rooms and apartments to tourists during the summer (with reduced rates for children 14 and under). Rooms include a continental breakfast (you can pay extra for a hot breakfast if you choose).

I believe Trinity also offers limited parking for guests, though I totally agree with Padraig that a car is a liability and (if you can do without) get rid of it and train or bus from Belfast.

The Ballsbridge location is just a few minutes from the center of Dublin.All rooms are 119 euro and they have family rooms. There is a fee for parking, 8 euro a day.

Trinity does not offer parking for guests as thery are reserved for staff and residents. i would try D4 Hotels or Bewelys as they are good locations and alterbnatively Padraid mentioned Noth side but its farther on a bus or dart to the centre.
