Dublin Bus/Dart Schedules

Can I get Dublin bus/DART schedule prior to arriving in Dublin? Is ground transportation comparable to London (which I think is excellent)? Is the bus drivers strike over? Thanks - Charlie

Charlie,
The bus strike is over. The timetables for Dublin Bus can be found at www.dublinbus.ie. However be warned due to traffic chaos in Dublin expect a bus when you see one and avoid travelling during peak rush hour. Buses are frequently delayed and often late as a result of traffic. The timetable states the time the bus leaves the end/start point and does not give you the time it may arrive at a stop midway in its journey. The DART however is far more organised, with no traffic delays and times for each station. You can access the site directly through www.irishrail.ie. Both Dublin Bus and the DART are companies within CIE which is the national transport company which also runs buses nationwide and provide tours to major tourist sites. While I am critical of Dublin and praising of the DART there is no other way to get around in Dublin as the traffic is very heavy throughout the day, the only alternative is walk. Enjoy yourself and post if you have any more questions

Cathy

Kathy, thanks for your insight. I have checked out the website. At this point we're not exactly sure where we really want to travel within and outskirts of Dublin. We'll put it together as the days go on, I guess. By the way - has anyone dined @ Harry Ramsdens (fish and chips)?

Charlie,
Harry Ramsdens chip shop in Dublin is an English franchise - it is OK but not outistanding and there is some news reports that it is closing down its outlet. For the best fish and chips in Dublin and in the city centre area (Harry Ramsdens is outside the city). fresh fish and good french fires/chips try Burdochs - there are a few around the city inlcuing Phibsborough (Northside), Rathmines and the homebase and the best one just down a side street from the Lord Edward pub opposite Christchurch. Most have seated areas except for the Christchurch branch where CEOs q up alongside students, tourists with native Dubliners. Get some fish and chips and a softdrink and find a park bench and enjoy your food - I am getting hungry thinking of it.

Cathy
