driving to Rome
We're going to Italy the end of May for two weeks. My sister and brother in law will be living between Pesaro and Urbino and after staying at their place for awhile, we plan to drive through Umbria and parts of Tuscany visiting small towns and wineries.
We're flying out of Rome so plan to end up there in the end. Does anyone have ideas on where to stay since we'll have the car? We don't plan to drive in Rome or anything but, it's not a rental car we can drop off, it'll be in their car and they will work their way back to their house once my husband and I leave.
Any ideas on places to be able to park the car? Is it a pain to get into Rome with a car?
Thanks so much.

It is a pain to get in to Rome with a car. I would pick someplace to stay that is directly on a train line to Rome. Ostia beach has a lot of accomodations, and there are a few B&B type places around Ostia Antica.
Would your sister and BIL be willing to leave their car for a few days while you all stay in Rome?
You can certainly ask if the car can be left in the parking area near the station in Orvieto, although they will have to pay for the multiple day parking rate.
The airport is another option.
I wouldn't leave my car just anywhere in an ungaurded or free parking area.
How about Cimapino airport? Gaurded parking and easier to get to in a car than FCO. Or FCO and they can travel with you to the airport, then pick up their car.

thanks so much, this is kind of what I was thinking would be the case. We're going to have to either rethink where we stay or, maybe, as you said, check into leaving the car at Cimpapino. Thanks so much for the info tuscanlifeedit and StCirq. I'll discuss it with my sister.
