--- Driving Times, have idea??

Working hard to put this trip together for 9-24 August'08 and the great folks on this site have been so helpful!! We wonder what are reasonable driving times for following:

# Gaeta to Assisi

# Assisi to Perugia -1/2 hr?

# Perugia to Siena

# Florence to Pisa

# Florence to Bologna

# Bologna to Milano

??? Thank you!!!

That is a great site, thanks! But, gave exact time/milage for only the two Perugia ones. For the rest, it gave many choices of other cites and I was not familiar with where they are. Think I need someone who lives in those areas and knows from his/her daily experiences.

I had no problems finding the distance between Florence and Pisa on viaMichelin, but I specified Firenze. Using the Italian name might give more results.

You might also try mappy.com. But to help with one issue, you want the town Bologna(Emilia Romagna) and Milan(Lombardy).

Have actually driven a couple of these:

# Assisi to Perugia -1/2 hr? Yes! It does depend in what part of Perugia, though.

# Florence to Pisa - have done from Pisa-Florence and it's about an hour. It is a superstrada and we saw two accidents in a relatively short space, so drive carefully:

Hi Michael,

Yes, I tried Italian names and for Firenza to Bologna this screen popped up as it does with most requests:

Departure

Several answers match your search.
Please select one of the options listed below:

1 I - Vicenza - Vicenza (36100) : Vicenza
2 I - Ravenna - Faenza

In viaMichelin I just get to be asked if I want Bologna : Bologna, or another Bologna option with the word Castel. I chose the first. Estimated drive time 1:28. Faenza and Ravenna never even came up.

here is the link for that rioute:
http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamich...ure=06/02/2008

(hmmm...that looks REALLY long...don't know how to shorten the URL though....sorry all!!)
I think youo're problem is that you had a typo/spelling error...it is Firenze

I have found all the times VERY, VERY accurate on that site and it is always what I go by (mappy and mapquest are not as accurate for Italy, I think)I have nver not been able to find directions to/from even the smallest of towns...so those youo listed will not be a problem...just look up the spellings ;-0 and use commono sense when they give you options...i.e. they list the province the towns are in (some towns in different places DO have simmilar mnames and if youor spelling is a bit off, they will list all simmilar ones)

On mappy.com (that's what I use the most), if it gives me a number of possible destinations, and I have to choose among them:
- Usually the top-most choice is the correct one
- If I know what region or department the town or city is in, that may be listed (i.e., Faenza, which I am not familiar with. Vicenza is in the region of Vicenza; Bologna is in the Bologna region; it's an administrative designation, maybe similar to a large U.S. county)
- I GUESS!

Then when the map comes up, and it's mapped to a town 500 km away, I know that I've guessed wrong, and I back up and try again.

The other helpful thing about mappy.com is that you can register, and save your routes. You can also save destinations, such as hotels and restaurants. It's great website (viamichelin has a similar function, but mappy.com's is easier for me to use).

Just as in the USA and many other countries, there can be more than one city/town with the same name, or the same root name with some slight variation. You do have to have some mimimal knowledge of the location of your destination and it's complete name so you can pick the right one. I use a map for that.
