I stayed at the Hotel Cap D'Or! Loved it but it isn't necessarily for everyone.
BTW, my experiences of driving in the Spanish Pyrenees and the Costa Brava were different, and driving in each of those areas was different than driving in other parts of Spain -- which is one reason I linked in my trip report above. For example, there were many changes to the roads in the Pyrenees since either my GPS or my paper maps had last been updated, which was not my experience elsewhere. And the winds along the Costa Brava made driving a particular challenge for me. I'm not sure that general assertions about driving in Spain are all that useful... JMO.

The area north of Barcelona and into the Pyrenees is full of two lane roads. Our biggest problem there was delays due to road works.
The AP-7 (autopista) / toll road going south out of Barcelona is a new highway in great shape. But I think they're trying to pay for it in one year. The tolls cost us around 60 euros from Barcelona to Alicante.

Stupid me. Seeing as this trip starts in San Sebastián and ends in Tossa de Mar you will encounter Ertzaintza on the first part of the trip. Then the Guardia Civil, with the last part covered by the Mossos d'Esquadra.
It is possible a bit confusing, but that is part of Spain's character.
Sorry for that omission...... But they all work to enforce the same highway laws.
