Driving in Germany - sticker needed?

We will be traveling in Germany (Fussen area) in early July and I'm curious what, if any, car stickers for roads is required? If we do need Vignette type stickers, where do I purchase one and how much are they. We will only be there for 2-3 days.

Also if anyone knows, the same question I have for Austria? Where might I purchase one on the Vignette stickers for the car and how much are they. We will be passing thru Austria on the way to Germany, so traveling thru on two different days.

Thank you.

Rick

No for Germany
Yes for Austria
Buy at the border.

Toll stickers are required on all vehicles on Austria's motorways and highways!
Stickers can be obtained from the Austrian Automobile Clubs as well as post offices, sundries and gasoline stations. Please note that stickers are also available in Austria's neighboring countries at gasoline stations, at borders as well as Automobile clubs.

The following fees apply:

A twelve-months sticker for private cars amd motorhomes weighing up to 3.5 tons is EURO 80.60 and for motorcycles EURO 32.10
A two-months sticker for travel to and through Austria is EURO 24.20 for private cars and motorhomes up to 3.5 t
A 10-day sticker for cars and vehicles up to and incl. 3.5t is EURO 8.30

These stickers must be afixed on the upper middle or left side of the windshield. Motorists who do not purchase the appropriate sticker will be fined EURO 300 (up to EURO 3,000). Cars rented in neighboring countries may or may not be equipped with the sticker. Please ask your car rental agency.

Germany, no. Austria, yes.

You can usually pick one up at a gas station or rest stop just before crossing the border.

Or you can order one online (a 10 day vignette costs about 10 euros):

You'll need one for Austria and the last time we went to Austria our rental company provided it. You also need to have the appropriate kit should you break down in Austria.

If they don't give you one, buy it.

You may not be allowed in to some towns and cities in Germany without an Umweltplakette (Environment sticker) on your car.
If you are hiring a German car it may already have the sticker.
If it is your own car you need to get in touch with your local motoring organisation to find out how to get the sticker.

... if it is your own car you need to get in touch with your local motoring organisation to find out a) whether your car qualifies or not, b) if it does, how to get the sticker.

We are renting a car and departing from Zurich, Switzerland.
I will check with the rental place to see what stickers they can provide me.

Thank you for all the help.
