Just beginning plans of possible Belgium vacation. On which side of the road do you drive on in Belgium?

As is true with all of continental Europe (and the US), driving is on the right side of the road.

Best wishes,

Rex
same as at home in US . And take the minor roads, you'll see a lot more, stop when something is interesting. And don't eat too much at lunch because you will not believe the amount of food you get at dinner!!!!!!!! we love Belgium and the Belgians. where are you off to?If anywhere near the WW1 battlefields , email me I can give you some info.

Belgium is a wonderful country to visit and driving there is very easy. Best advice is to have a good map -- I used Michelin Guide. Be sure to get one with the most details that include even the smallest villages or it can be easy to get lost. You're in for a treat.

Driving in the Belgian countryside is easy, driving in the cities is another matter!! I have driven in Paris, New York, LA, London and central Africa--but Brussels, where I live, has some of the worse intersections and worst drivers I have ever encountered. The Montgomery Circle and the circles around the Palais de Justice and Place Louise are horrendous. Don't forget that in Brussels, there are many drivers with CD (diplomatic) platee who routinely ignore traffic rules. Not to mention the many bad Belgian drivers because Belgium did not require a driving test to get a license until the 1970s.
Also, remember that Belgium has the "priorite a droite" rule, which means you must give way to drivers coming from the right, unless they specifically have a stop or yield sign (and many will go right through the yield signs). So even if you are driving on a large, busy street, and the driver is coming to you from a small street on the right, he has the right of way. Accidents resulting from this rule are common, and if you look around, you'll see lots of cars with dents and dings on the right side near the front.
BTilke (Brussels)
