Driving from Zaragoza to Lourdes
What is the best route to go from Zaragoza to Lourdes as far as scenery and good, safe roads? Has anyone driven from Biescas to Broto to Ainsa and then France? Difficult roads? How is the road from Jaca to Urdos and then Lourdes through the Col d'Aubisque?<BR>I will appreciate any and all advice.

I have an anecdotal story on the Cote d'Abisque (sp?) road. It was 15 years ago, and my father was driving the route you mentioned but coming from Lourdes. At the time, the road was an extremely narrow, two-lane road, and as soon as we started climbing, it was shrouded in fog - fog so thick that in areas my mom would get out of the car and literally guide my dad in driving. There was barely, if enough, space for two cars to cross in areas, and the rear view mirror was permanently pulled in. If he met a larger than European compact car coming from the opposite direction, someone had to flinch and reverse to find a slightly wider patch of road. Having just returned from Lourdes, I tell you that my mom, the four of us kids in the car, and my father all put our newly reinforced faith to good use praying. That said, I would recommend verifying that this road has been improved and widened, and I would try somehow to find out if fog is expected. The views must be amazing, as the heights are dizzying, and the scenery is wild and gorgeous. We do hold it as one of our great memories of our travels. Good luck.
