Driving from Lisbon to Spain?
Has anyone driven from Lisbon to Spain recently?
We are planning to spend from April to May one month in Spain.
Someone told me long ago that it was dangerous to travel by car from Portugal into Spain...????? Any information. Thank you

Somebody must be pulling your leg. It's a beautiful drive across rolling hills with cork trees, then through some impressive mountains, and finally down to Seville. Any competent driver will have no trouble at all with this journey. Make sure you gas up before you run low; not many stations in those mountains.

Thank you Al for your reply. My idea that in some roads between both countries cars were robbed is possibly outdated by now...which is great news. I am changing our flight and landing in Lisbon and then driving into Spain. But before we shall be visting Portugal, if any one knows what is a must in Portugal besides Lisbon please reply. I am all ears.Thanks.
Yes, we drove from Lisbon to Evora (our favorite) and then up to Evoramonte, Estremoz and Elvas...though we did not cross over to Badajoz. The driving is on good roads and is quite easy...just have to be cautious about the Portugese drivers, as they tend to drive like bats outta hell. You've made a wise choice in vacations. Spend the night in the Pousada Dos Loios in Evora for a real treat...also the Pousada in Estremoz (though we didn't stay) looked particularly inviting. There's little town called Borba that serves up a tasty wine (by the same name)...we had the 1981 red, and it was the best of the trip! HAVE A BLAST!

Cheers from San Diego,

.t.
Thank you, Turbot-San Diego, yes I am excited with the idea of staying in all these little towns, lately we avoid sistematically all those destinations that every body goes to, and the result has been fantastic trips. Trained in Bs As I guess I can handle the bats, thanks again.

I'm from Spain. Portugal is nice. You must go to a closed to Lisbon City called "Sintra" (about 15 miles). It has old palaces and manors absolutely great. Only be carefull of Portuguise drivers, 'cuz the roads in Spain (so, so in Portugal) are quite good.

If you want more information about my country you can send me an e-mail at the direction above.
