My family and I are planning to drive from Geneva to London - through France. Where do we make the channel crossing from France to UK and how many days do you think it would take. Do we need to have stop overs etc., if yes in which city. <BR> <BR>Would love to hear views and ideas <BR> <BR>Thank you

Distance from Geneva to the channel is about 770 miles, probbaly necessitating overnight stop. I would choose somewhere like Reims, a pleasant town in the Champagne region with a wonderful cathedral and plenty of affordable accommodation. I would go by autoroute A40 and A6 to Dijon, then A31, A5 and A26 to Reims (thus bypassing Paris). Then continue on A26 to Calais. Quickest crossing will be by Eurotunnel (35 min, crossing every 15-30 min). From UK terminal, take M20 and A20 to Central London, or use M25 to the area of London you are heading for. From Reims to Calais is about 2.5 hours and from Folkestone terminal to outskirts of London about an hour. Do book your channel crossing in advance, as drive-on fare is expensive. www.eurotunnel.com

Sorry, I meant to say Geneva - Calais is about 770 km or 480 miles. From Geneva to Reims is around 500 km or 310 miles, taking about 5 hours. So if you set off from Reims around 10 am, you'll be arriving in Folkestone around 3 pm (one hour behind in UK) and in London by 5 pm.

It's not by day, is it? I MEANT to say arrive in Folkestone around 1 pm (UK time) and in London by 3 pm.

I've driven from Geneva to the suburbs of London in a day several times, and that was using the ferry. Start early and you should be in London in the afternoon using the autoroutes.
