driving a Rental Car in Turkey - Toll Roads
We will be renting a car on Monday to drive around Turkey for about two weeks. I vaguely recall reading about the toll roads and the need to get a device to drive on them? Is there something I purchase thru our car rental company, Budget, which we rented thru Auto Europe? If not how is it handled? I'm not clear if we will even be driving in toll roads, but wanted to be prepared. thanks!

Definitely check with your car rental agency. I didn't, and ended up at a toll booth that was not manned and that required a "pass" of some sort. I eventually made it through only because of the kindness of a stranger. Even now, I'm not sure exactly what was required!

The only toll road will be betwen Izmir airport to Selcuk and further to Aydin.
If you are driving North from the airport and then going to Pamukklae without passing through Selcukand Ephesus, you will not drive on any toll roads.

The Izmir-Selçuk toll road must be new or we somehow by-passed it when we drove there. In our drive from Izmir to Cappadocia we came across no toll roads, but my navigator and I try to avoid super highways when traveling as tourists.

yestravel, there is also a non-toll route from Selcuk to Izmir airport. As far as I can remember it is also, at least partially, a divided highway and may not be very slow. It is also more xcenic than the motorway. Just give yourself 70 minutes to reach the airport rather than 45-50 on the motorway.
