drive from seville to lisbon
since the train between the 2 cities takes too long, i am wondering about the drive. how long does it take and is the highway easy? is it mountainous? our other choice is take a plane to madrid and another plane to lisbon, but it is a little pricey. thanks for any help.

Hi there Carol. The best way is driving. Take the highway from Seville to the Algarve, then the Algarve highway (Via do Infante), untill you find the Highway A2 (that goes to Lisbon). This Highway has tolls, and from Algarve to Lisbon is aprox 39 euros.

the highway is excellent (brand new, in fact...it will open to traffic on the 27 June - 2 days from today - ) no hills or mountains. Speed limit in Portugal is 120 km\h, but if you drive at 130 or 140 km\h in little traffic parts you won't have problems, but please...don't go over 140 or 150 km\h, because the highway police uses "normal" cars without identification

We drove via Beja on a secondary highway in May. In Portugal, it was fairly flat agricultural country, narrow, but not all that busy, and the road surface was excellent. Only problem with secondary roads is you slow down for more small towns. In Spain, it was more mountainous, but still good quality roads. A few tailgaters were the worst of our problems.
