Drive from Amsterdan to Brussels

Could someone tell me how long the drive is from Amsterdan to Bruges and to Brussel. I was thinking on maybe renting a car or taking a day tour instead of flying into belgium.
I have also checked itineraries and 2 different day tour companies based in Amsterdan, but the tours are 12-14 hour tours so I was wondering how much of these time is actually spended on freeways.
Also , I'll take any suggestion on trains.
thanks.

so I was wondering

Clearly the train is superior for this short route.

And this from someone who almost always argues in favor of plane or car.

Best wishes,

Rex

If you're not used to dense trafic, driving on the freeways in the Netherlands and Belgium is not fun. From Amsterdam to Brussels is about 200 km, A'dam/Brugge is 255 km. Respectively 2.5 and 3 hours if there is little trafic!
Train ride A'dam/Brussels is 2 hrs 47 min., A'dam/Brugge is 3 hrs 35 min.

You can walk to the centre in abt. 15/20 min. You can also take a bus. When you get out of the train station you will see all the buses. Buy your ticket at the ticket booth and ask which lines go to the city.

It is a very easy and nice walk from the Brugges train station to the old town center. When you walk out of the train station, cross the busy street in front of you, veer a little to the left and follow that road, and probably other like-minded people, to the center. Watch for the bell tower as a landmark. It's best if you can get a map beforehand - there's supposed to be a Tourist Office at the train station but I didn't find it. Found maps once wandering in the old town area, but got turned around a couple of times until I did. Even that is fun, unless terribly pressed for time.

Take the train. Change in Antwerpen and Ghent. Go early because you can see the town in a few hours. The tourist information office is at the Markt in the center of town.

Spend your afternoon and early evening in Antwerp on your return to Amsterdam. It is a jewel of a city. There are 2 train stations in Antwerp so allow time to go to/from Berchem and Centraal.

Buy your train tickets in Amsterdam. Don't bother with reservations or paying high prices in the USA.
