Zeta - Are you referring to the Best Western Hotel Nouvel Orleans, 25 Avenue du General Leclerc, 14arr.? (Email- [email protected])
I loved this area with Rue Daguerre nearby but also the fact that an entrance to the Mouton-Duvernet Metro stop is practically outside the entrance to the hotel!
Another big plus for me would be the fact I can connect all the way to CDG via this stop.
I have their brochure and the rooms look fine.
Best of luck with your choice hdm.

"Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche -- 5th arr, Latin Quarter, on Isle St Louis"

The Henri IV is not on Ile St. Louis, it is in the Latin Quarter. The Ile St Louis, as has been mentioned by another poster, is an island between the left and right banks and is in the 4th. Touristy or not, it is a great place to stay, especially for a first visit to Paris. the location is super, within easy walking distance of both the left and right banks.

Hi,
tod - yes, that is the hotel I was refering to. It was great and the area was great. And the metro access was awesome. When I read the reviews I didn't possibly think it would be as good as it said, but it was. I stayed there for a week when I was in Paris. After that I went to Spain for a week and then back to Paris for a few days. The second part of my Paris trip I decided to try a differ area (just incase I didn't like the first hotel) and the second hotel wasn't nearly as nice! Good luck.

Thanks for your help, everyone. I've ended up at the Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche and have requested a front-side room on the 4th, 5th or 6th floor as these are the ones that get mentioned most often on TripAdviser.

I've ended up having to pay more than I wished (so what else is new, right?) but we've been invited to stay with friends in Nice so I'm thinking about all the hotel money I'll save there. You can always rationalize...

Any hints re restaurants, shops or anything else you might personally recommend around the Henri IV would be welcome.

Richard,
Caron de Beaumarchais would have been my next choice. It will just have to wait till I visit Paris again!

First I would contact the hotels and see if there are vacancies for your dates. No since stewing over this is they are not available.

Second I would go with the better and more central located hotel.

I'm confused, Suze. Are you talking to me? Because I've already got a place.

We went with the Henri IV largely because of the decor. My husband just felt the Caron was a bit too frou-frou for him. It's probably not, but they don't show very many pictures on the website. I thought it looked nice but TA reviews also commented on the smallness of the rooms (moreso than the Henri).

Re neighbourhood, we'll walk around everywhere anyway.

I am searching the forum for a triple in Paris. Does the Caron de Beaumarchais have triple rooms? According to their website they only have single, double and twin rooms? The Hotel looks nice and very well located! And with so many recommendations from this forum.

Thanks for your help.

Usually, the rates page will show a price for triples if they have them - not all hotels do. Here is a list I (and others) have compiled for other threads:

Hotel Delavigne
1 rue Casimir Delavigne 75006 Triple 150€
http://www.delavigne-paris-hotel.com/index.html

Hôtel Arley Tour Eiffel
34, rue Viala 75015 Triple room, view on the Eiffel Tower 159€
http://www.hotel-eiffel-tower.com/

Hotel Saint Jacques
35 rue des Ecoles 75005 Triple 160€
http://www.hotel-saintjacques.com/

Hôtel Louvre Marsollier Opéra
13, rue Marsollier 75002 Triples 180€
http://www.hotellouvremarsollier.com/

Hôtel Henri IV Rive Gauche
9 - 11, rue Saint-Jacques 75005 Triples 188€

www.hoteldulys.com has a triple. Great location for exploring both left and right banks.
-------------------------------------
Also, Hotel Bretonnerie in le Marais has triples, as does Hotel Chopin in the 9th:

hdm~when is your trip to Paris? I am looking at both the Henri IV Rive Gauche and the Caron de Beaumarchais for our trip in September.

Hi Pam,
We'll be at the Henri May 19 to 26 and back home June 9. I'll post a report and I hope it will be early enough for your decision. If I walk past the Beaumarchais I'll step in and try to get a feeling for it.

Based on my experience last year, the Caron de B. will not take resevations for the fall until April 1.

I am curious: Why does the Hotel St. Louis on the Ile get so little mention here? It looks quite nice and is a few doors north of the Lutece. Most of the reviews on TA seem positive.

I stayed at the Hotel Saint Louis last October and was very pleased with my choice. The clerks are friendly and the guy who checked me in I think was Bernard. He gave me keys to three rooms and let me choose which one I wanted.

The rooms are very small even for Paris I will admit and the bedspreads are very old and a bit tattered. The room size is fine for one person but for two it's a bit claustrophobic. The bathrooms have been remodeled completely with nice tiles, new fixtures, and new sink and tub. There is an adjustable wall shower inside a bathtub. The size of the bathroom, however, is very very tiny.

I chose a fourth floor corner room so as to get two windows of light.

All in all I was pleased. I had read very negative reviews at Trip Advisor a few years ago referring to rooms that were not maintained well and aside from the bedspreads everything else was good.

I stayed at the Brighton Hotel which is in #1, and it's on the Rue de Rivoli. It's right across the street from the Tuileries, and the Louvre. The Metro entrance is also across the street. We had a room on the 4th floor (which is one I'd read about on this website) and when I walked out on the tiny balcony, I could see the Louvre, the Tuileries, the Eiffel Tower, the D'Orsay Museum, the Arc de Triomphe and L'Invalides (where Napolean is buried). I know many people don't mention staying in the First, but I liked it and it's so close to many things. The view at night from my hotel room was outstanding and the room wasn't expensive by European standards.

I recommmend Hotel Verneuil St. Germain in the 6th - I've stayed their twice. Very charming, small hotel on side street off rue de seine. Incredible location in between Blvd. St. Germaine and the Seine. Phone is 42-60-82-14: Fax is 42-61-40-38. Rooms are small, but very nice- marble bathrooms. Best rooms are 302,402,502 in front. Lovely public living room.
I've also stayed at Hotel de L'universite. Very nice, rustic looking rooms. Also great location. Hotel D'Angleterre on rue Jacob was the former british embassy, so rooms tend to be slightly larger here than at other hotels in this quarter. Biggest/best room is room 51, top floor suite. I've also stayed at Hotel des Saints Peres, great location too. on other (south) side of Blvd. St. Germaine.

I agree with stricky. I stayed at the Vernueil twice also. First time my aunt got room 402 and I got 401 which was a single (too tiny but the bathroom is almost as large as the room). The second time I stayed in #302. The night manager did recommend #502 (on the top floor) as being the staff's favorite. Just reserve a deluxe double room if you stay here as the standard doubles are too small even for Paris; a/c is available only in some rooms btw.
