Jenn, Just got back from a wonderful 11 days in Ireland. We were in Doolin and stayed at the Atlantic Sunset House on the Cliffs of Moher Rd. I would think that the Seaview House would be nice. We may have walked past it...Gus O'Connors for a great pub meal and GREAT music. The Doolin Cafe near McGanns pub was where we had one of our best dinners. Tiny place but super food. We noticed that most people made reservations...only 8 tables. The Cliffs were beautiful. Doolin is tiny about 5 pubs, 3 shops. The Doolin Craft Store out-side of town was terrific.

Jenn, The Atlantic Sunset House was fine. However, you had to drive into Doolin...other than the pubs the town has just a couple of shops. This is where you can get a ferry to the Aran Islands...no cars on the ferry. The Cliffs of Moher are just about 4 miles away....we had a sunny day and could follow the path along the cliffs. Awe inspiring...if it is windy and rainy it might not be as wonderful. I assume you are driving.. to get to Dingle from Doolin a quick way is N67 to Killimer, take the ferry(9 punts one-way) to Tarbet, then N69 to Tralee, N86 to R560 to Connor Pass into Dingle. Glorious views...the roads are very narrow and most of the time we could do 35-40 because of the twists and turns. Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula was just too beautiful...again tough driving but very much worth the time. We brought snacks with us and sat on the 2 mile long beach at Ventry. Very calming. The Dingle Pub had great music. The Smoke House had great food as did Murphy's Pub on the harbor. Killarney...nice town. Take R561 to N22 from Dingle. Muckross House and Torc Falls and Gap of Dunloe, all very nice. The Laurels or Danny Mann's for music. The Flesk for a good filet mignon! The roads are very small, even though the show on a map as the major highway, thay are mostly two lane roads. We drove from Dublin to Killarney, about 200 mi. in 5.5 hours. You will love the people and the scenery is just so hard to describe. Literally every twist and turn brings totally new and better vistas. Dublin...Grafton St.; the Guinness Tour;Fitzsimons for music; and Christ Church Cathedral for beauty,be sure to go down stairs to the crypts...cool. Any other questions? Linda

Jenn:

My wife and I stayed at the SeaView House last September and loved it. The house is on a hill overlooking O'Connors Pub and is about a 1 minute walk away from there. We mostly dealt with Dara and she was great. We were originally schdeuled to spend 10 days in Ireland and then ferry to Wales for the final four days. When we changed our minds and had to change all our rentals, Dara was extremely helpful in contacting the airlines for us and arranging accomodations for us in Kenmare (which was our next stop after Doolin - highly recommend). Doolin itself is tiny, but definitely go to both Connors and McCanns for the pub and its atmosphere. I would say if you could get into the SEa View House do it. The only thing Dara requires is that you mail her a $100 room deposit in advance to secure the room.

Her address is
The Hughes
Sea View House
Fisher Street
Doolin, Co. Clare

Send it there and you will be all set

Agree with David--Darra and Niall Hughes are wonderful hosts and the Sea View is lovely. We were there last February ('99) and had no reservations; had no trouble securing a room. I'm sure it's quite different in high season, however!

While Doolin is charming and the pubs fun, I would reverse it so you spend 1 night in Doolin and 2 in Dingle Town. There's a lot more to do there and you'll hear great music there as well.

Doolin is lovely and I would never worry about the B&B's in Ireland. We found all of our hosts to be charming, helpful and accomodations excellent during our 2 weeks in Ireland. We stayed only one night in Doolin but I wish we had stayed another- an excellent spot for good music!! Also, you can take a day trip to the Aran Islands from there if you are worried about the town being too small and not much to do. We also biked and the coastal road between the Cliffs of Moehr and Doolin was breathtaking!
