We've stopped in Doolin on each Ireland visit. A few years ago, we stayed at the Aran View Hotel..excellent, walking distance to the little village of Doolin and the famed Gus O'Connor's pub...and a grand evening of brew and dancing entertainment you can have therein!
It may be a quiet village for some, but we enjoyed it immensely. Will be a bit cold in January...earliestwe were there was March..and it was sweater/jacket weather.

Well, you won't have the summer crowds as when I was there 3 summers ago. The little town is ill-equipped to deal with the tourists that overran the area...no way could we even get inside the pubs! So, you will most likely get to enjoy the music scene which I was sorry to miss out on. Enjoy a low key and quiet time.
