The AA Route Planner will give you driving times - www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp - and routes to take. You can even put in places you want to see along the way and it will readjust the route for you. As for what to be prepared for - there are a lot of posts on Fodor's about driving in Ireland. Is that what you meant?

I didn't quite do that drive but I left Doolin around 11:30 and went north to the Ailawee Caves. We did a tour and took pics. That was about an hour to an hour and a half. We then came down past Doolin and Lahinch. We were on our way to the Shannon Ferry. We got there before 5:00. We took the ferry over, which is about 20 minutes, and drove along the cost. We past Dingle and went to Killarney. Dingle is closer than Killarney is so I'd say we got to Killarney about 6:30. I don't know how much this will help ya but it might give you an estimate of time. If you live in the U.S. remember that it takes twice as long for you to get places around Ireland. I've only been on the west coast of Ireland. We're going again in October - November. Enjoy your trip!!

We were just there in Doolin a week ago--I liked the Aranview hotel just up the hill from the pubs. Doolin area is small but very neat.
Doolin to Cashel? Hmmm--I'd say 3 hrs.--a good hour to get to the N18--then on to cashel shouldn't be too bad.
Relax--get going early---just enjoy
