I'll Talk, I'll talk, Anne Frank is in the attic, just don't discuss the price of Coke.

I paid $2.10 for a tomato at a local supermarket yesterday - yes I was silly to do this. I hope it has some flavor.

Geez...I did think it was funny and thank you to anyone who knew I was joking. I know about airport prices, I know prices of everything in Switzerland are high.

Newb you really don't have to join in if it's that upsetting to you. I won't be offended. I think you're just having a bad day.

Thin...we did hear some mooing and other sounds on the train. A little Swiss atmosphere. DH said they should have included a cash register sound (a joke newb)

Nope, haven't been to Norway.

Glad you're enjoying the TR IMDonehere

Adrienne...careful. Don't bring up the cost of something else! And I hope it has more flavor than the ones in PA stores!

Many years ago, 1977 to be exact, on our first trip to Europe, we were in Paris and being the Coke addict that I am, wanted a Coke. I figured that it cost almost $5 and that was in 1977!

But, that Coke still tasted great. It was what I wanted and I was on vacation in PARIS!!

Betty...we've always laughed that coke is more expensive than wine in France.

Bettyk:

My first trip to Paris was back in 1969, and I have to agree that Cokes were expensive even back then. We probably spend more on vacation, just for the pleasure of it, than we would at home, don't we?

I agree betty. We just spent 10 vacation days going into pubs. We don't do that at home!

Coke may be expensive, but when you have a blocked drain nothing else works quite as well.

Yes, I thought it was funny that the OP didn't know that Coke is outlandishly expensive in Europe--and in US in airports. Such a sheltered life he/she lives. Hilarious.

You can pay a LOT less for a soda in Zurich airport if you go to the fairly large Migros (on the main concourse level before you head up or over to check-in). The prices for snacks, sundries, baked goods, beverages, and other groceries are reasonable and the quality of the produce there is very good, in case you're catching a train from the airport and want a fresh fruit or veggie snack -- or you arrive early enough to have plenty of time before checking in. You can also go to the small Coop store near the escalators up to the airport Radisson and, again, you'll pay a LOT less than 4 francs for a coke.

Gretchen - Yes, the OP DID know those things, as pointed out above. Not such a sheltered life, but hilarious is a good thing! That was the intention...thanks! I don't recall mentioning US airport prices though - you must have me mixed up with someone else. I do agree though that wine does seem to be one of the cheapest drinks in Paris, and coke very expensive.

Weisser - now that you mention it, I think I've been to that Migros. Is it in the section with the train station? We've stocked up there before getting on trains to the BO - good suggestion.

zippo - I'll keep that in mind for my next clogged drain!

Nope, sorry--you seemed to be serious from the get go about the price.
Didn't say you said anything about airport prices in US--just agreeing with that post.
I can remember coming back from the Caribbean and having been sticker shocked with ALL the prices there, getting to the Miami airport and being THANKful for a $10 hamburger. ;O)

Gretchen...

Everyone comments about airport prices...that is nothing new from anyone or in any place in the world. I've heard it over and over on Fodors, in airports, etc.
I bet you've commented about it sometime in your life too, and that would be normal.
Would I say you are sheltered if I heard you comment on it? Nope. That wouldn't occur to me.
Would you expect to be blasted for a normal conversational item on Fodors? Doubt it. I didn't.
Does anyone like those prices? Doubt it.
Does that stop them from commenting? Nope.
Are airport (or hotel for that matter) prices a fact of life? Sure.
Do we all accept these prices? Of course, it's a part of travel.
Do we have to pay those prices? Not if we don't want to. Supply and demand.
Are there similar comments about the price of train tickets, meals, hotels, bills, etc. on Fodors? Of course.
Is everyone who mentions them blasted? I hope not.
So, does every comment=complaint? Not necessarily.
Are any of these worth getting upset over? I'd say not. I certainly wasn't upset when I wrote that post and I"m not now, but a couple of people here are. I don't understand all the fuss.
So, was I serious about the price? Absolutely - it really did cost that much!
I was equally serious about the price in Dublin. I notice no one thought I was complaining about that 1€ price although I did state it in a similar way.
Will I mention the price of Coke again? I bet I will someday!

Well, actually now that you have made me reflect further, your price in the airport was pretty good==we paid 4E for DDIL's cokes in Paris!!
Have a GREAT day.

We have a scoop-airport prices are unreasonable.

What next, it is hot in southern Spain in August?

Or Ryan Air are not nice people?

When I want a COKE, I'll pay anything for it! And yes, I know how disgustingly bad they are for you.
I've lived quite a long time, and consumed many different things, but nothing is quite as satisfying as a good ole COKE. And that doesn't include the diet ones!
