Domatio actually means a room and if it's in someone's private house doesn't necessarily include breakfast. If breakfast is a neccessity (and personally, I wouldn't bother) then you need to look for a small family-run hotel, or pension.

You could try typing in your various destinations at
www.gtpnet.com/accomodationform.asp to find listed accommodation in each area.

At the end of October there aren't many tourists about and some places will have already closed for the winter, but those that are still open should have room to spare.

Hello

Thought I would respond since we have traveled to Greece many times. The type of accomodations you want will be hard to find on the Web. The best & I believe the only way is to wait until you get to Greece. October is at the end of the season & so will find many more domatia type accomodations. Islands like Hydra, you will be met at the dock by people offering you rooms. If you go that route & we have, make sure its close to the harbor as everything else is up, way up. Athens; best to book ahead, try the Attalos Hotel in the Plaka, small, great hotel, about 62E without breakfast. Oia, in October you can probably wait until you arrive to find a room. Santorini, is very expensive compared to the other parts of Greece, but not to be missed.

Check out travel books like Lets Go Greece & Loney Planet, they will list these type of accomodations. You will probably have to call for reservations, as few have web sites.

PS --Looking at your itinerary, it seems wide spread, if you have a month or more it is doable. PSS. We've ended every trip to Greece with 3-4 days on the island of Hydra, it is very magical. Botsis Pension in Hydra is where we always stay, about 60E, which is cheap for Hydra, Great location. Get a room with belcony on 2nd or 3rd floor overlooking street. PSSS. they have a web site & u can book online. Have a Great time

Sandy in Oregon

Sandarini
Sorry, have to disagree with you on some points. I was on Hydra in october and there were no hotel owners or otherwise touting for business at the wharf. I managed a great deal at a lovely small hotel called Inn Kompass, it's only a short walk up from the waterfront.
Also Santorini in october had some of the lowest rates in Greece. Kathy

You are right, by October most owners of smaller hotels close up & go to Florida for the winter
. That is where we found the owner of Botsis Pension this year. He finally e-mailed me I told me he'd be back in Hydra the end of March. However, one year we arrived in Hydra in Sept., but on a weekend, & everthing was full. We were met at the boat by a small pension owner & they gave us there master bedroom for the night. Shared the one bathroom with the whole family. too, fun. As for Santorini, rates are definetly lower in October, but still higher than most places in Greece. Again, I think you can get some good deals if you wait a find a room upon arrival. Just my 2 cents.
