Dad and three teens (13/17/18) will be leaving Dublin noon June 30th and have to fly out to Rome on 7/3 (thinking of Shannon airport). Possible itinerary: First night Connemara (Clifden), second Doolin, third Bunratty...then fly out from Shannon. Would appreciate thoughts. Would like to stay in Castle one night. Prefer B&B, or manor house another. Probably do Bunratty Dinner show night before leaving.
An alternative would be same dates but head south from Dublin to Kilkenny then over to west coast.

Your initial idea looks good to me. Rather than Clifden you could stay at Ashford Castle in Cong. The teens might enjoy a Hawk Walk while there.
For that last night consider Headley Court or Bunratty Lodge next door to each other in Bunratty, close to the Castle and an easy drive to the airport.
Haven't stayed in Doolin but there are lots of good reviews of the B&Bs there.
How refreshing to find someone not trying to see all of Ireland in 2½ days! Enjoy!

Well, OP said they wanted a castle stay and that one's on their proposed route.
There is always Ballynahinch Castle Hotel in Co. Galway but it's not a real castle.

I forgot about Dromoland Castle Hotel near Shannon. Another pricey stay, but in the right spot.
