You will need real winter clothes; below freezing temperatures (even at the high) should be expected, and I predict that you will see some snow.

Have you ever been in colder climates in winter? You need a coat, gloves, perhaps something for your head and "winter-appropriate" shoes or boots (this could mean many different things to different people).

Hopefully, you will be able to find family, friends or acquaintances in the Maldives who can advise you on the best places to buy such clothes.

Best wishes,

Rex
Snow in Paris is a rarity, but it does happen. At the beginning of January, you can expect cold, probably wet, weather. I would plan to wear layers and make sure I had a very warm jacket/coat, a hat, a scarf, gloves, shoes or boots that can take walking through slush, and an umbrella. With luck, you won't need most of that.

Weather there is actually quite fickle. Rain is more common than snow throughout the winter, prompting longtime residents to complain about the occasional bone-chilling dampness. In recent years, Paris has had about 15 snow days a year. Plan apparel accordingly.

Even if it doesn't snow you need waterproof shoes or boots or you will be miserable. Dress in layers--the Parisians keep their building awfully warm--you'll want to shed some clkothes when you go inside.
