oh, I forgot for my vote on sexy French actors: I don't consider Depardieu sexy at all, although I like his acting and many of his films, I don't like Johnny Halladay at all, yechh (I know he's no actor, just don't get him at all), I consider Daniel Auteuil, Thierry Lhermitte and Michel Serrault sexy--the latter in a different manner than obvious choices, maybe because I'm getting older.

Lucy, yes, I saw Romance in the U.S. (in Seattle.) While it played here, and our two main alternative weekly papers ran ads for it, apparently the two major daily papers refused to run ads, presumably because it was unrated.

I don't know what it's like in Australia but, here in the U.S., sex scenes in movies seem to be viewed more harshly than scenes of violence in movies.

The most recent French film I saw was Amelie and I loved it. A favorite from a few years ago is Eric Rohmer's Rendezvous in Paris.
Kelly:
In the meantime, I saw "La Pianiste" as well. I fully agree with you, very disturbing. But she does a great job. I am sure she will get nominated for the "Cesars", the French Oscars in spring.
I was also happy to see Annie Girardot (her mother in the movie) again. Apparently, she had a cancer, but she appeared in a theater in Paris in late December. Unfortunately, all performances were sold out.
