Does anyone know a good centrally located hotel in Barcelona for around 100 bucks?

The Continental, at the top end of the Ramblas near Placa Catalunya in the heart of the action, is in the 70-90 euro p/night range. www.hotelcontinental.com

I'll have to chime in with martytravels on the Continental. We stayed there last October. It's right on the Ramblas, which we loved - and we even booked a balcony room so that we could sit out and watch the action. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. Great breakfast included also and helpful staff. Barcelona is wonderful - have fun!

richardab,
Don't know your April dates, but you might be able to snag a discounted rate at the H10 Catalunya Plaza right in the epicenter of the city btwn the Ramblas and the upscale Eixample district, right on Placa Catalunya.
I've stayed in several H10s, an "up and coming", energetic chain, and they're very well run, spiffy, newish-looking, immaculate and offer a very good value.
If you go to www.h10.es, select the H10 Catalunya Plaza, then click on the on line booking page, then at the top click on "rates", you'll see the '04 rate calendar for this hotel. But note that many April dates fall in the trade fair zone, when rates are highest, but the blue and yellow days fall within your price range for a single rm.
Worth checking, I think.

richardab,
Of course I can only speak for our experience, but we had a balcony room (as I mentioned earlier) and it was fine. Just as nice as our more expensive hotel in Seville, that had been highly recommended on this board. It certainly was not a luxury room, but good hard beds (which we liked) and nice linens on the bed. The towels could have been softer, come to think of it. Ok toiletries - a ceiling fan which we really enjoyed - high ceilings, a safe, just a good average room. We only stayed the night but would have stayed longer. We were prepared with ear plugs as we had heard that it could be very noisy, but we even left the double doors to the balcony open so we cold hear the haunting street music as we fell asleep. Remember, this was in October, so it is probably much more crowded (and noisy) at other times of the year. We got there early enough to have breakfast when we arrived - and fixed our tray and took it to our balcony. It was great! The security was very good. The man at the desk would not let us leave the hotel with our luggage on the early morning that we departed until he was sure there was a taxi outside waiting for us. It was a budget hotel just right for us budget travelers!
