Do B&B's have Hairdryers and Ironing Boards available?
This is our first trip to Britain and we will be staying in B&B's. I want to know whether or not B&B's supply a hairdryer and an ironing board on request? I can certainly live without both, but just wondered so that I know for when we get there. Appreciate anyone's help.

Some will, some won't, depends on the B&B. I am sure most would have an iron, but they may not want you to use it in your room without supervision - might burn the place down. As far as a hairdryer, I wouldn't bet the 'do on it, better get on of those little tiny dual volatge dryers and bring it along.
You might consider a travel iron is you must have one, or perhaps some of the spray on wrinkle remover which works well.

Kerryanne, Personally I would plan to pack differently if you think you have things that need to be ironed. Most fun clothes today have a bit of lycra in them and don't wrinkle much. If you want extra "nonwrinkle" protection, I use one of those plastic bags that drycleaning comes back in and if you wrap a dress or skirt in that it doesn't wrinkle. I just don't take things that need ironing. As for hair dryers, I bought one in France a year or two ago for about $10 and take it with me each time I go back.

Kerryanne: As George said, "some do; some don't." How were they booked? Did you do it on the net? Do the B&Bs have web pages? If so, sometimes amenities are listed. If you have e-mail addresses, e-mail each one and ask them.

Hair dryers seem to be more and more common at places we have stayed in Europe. My husband used to carry one, but almost everywhere we have stayed recently there was one in the bathroom. I have a steam travel iron that works ver well. It's not very heavy and sometimes I take it and sometimes not. Guess it boils down to how important I feel a few wrinkles are in the overall scheme of things!

j

Thank you all. I have bought a small travel steam iron for those just in case situations... most everything we are taking is wrinkle free drip dry stuff. But would like to run a quick iron over my hubby's polo shirts and I have one outfit for going to a special place that would need a quick press. I was just wondering weather or not I would need to iron on the bed or if the ironing boards are available. I will email the various places as suggested. Thanks all. We are off on our trip in one month, just getting all the last minute things together now.

Kerryanne, I book all B&B's via the internet and tell them at the time that I will require a hairdryer for the duration of my stay. So far, they have always responded that a hairdryer would be no problem. I've only used an iron once, and they were able to provide that as well. The only problem was the lack of plugins in the room. Remember, most of these B&B's are very old and so is the wiring.

Good point to look for about the amount of plug ins in the rooms... I don't suppose a hostess would mind me asking to use her ironing board in the laundry... Thanks all for your feedback
