Is there direct train from Salzburg to Prague?. If so, what is the train timing and is there any change over?

Using the usually infallbile German railways web schedules for all of Europe it shows no direct Salzburg to Prague trains but schedules that have usually 2 but at times 1 change of train (at Linz to connect with direct Linz-Prague trains - this takes about 6.5 hours - most connections take 7.5 hours or longer and demand 2 changes of train - some go via Linz and others via Nurnberg - a longer route but on tracks that trains can go faster over. I suspect the Salzburg-Linz-Prague route is significantly cheaper than the 99 euro route via Nurnberg.

Anyway for an easy way to reach the English page of the Wunderbar German Rail schedule page (www.bhan.de) go to the home page of www.budgeteuropetravel.com and click on the link highlighted there saying "best online European train timetable" (or some such wording) and this takes you to the
English schedule page of the bahn.de site - I reference this home page link because it also gives you several valuable tips to fully use the bahn.de site that may not be apparent at first glance (like platform numbers your train will use, time in between changes, etc.)

Train times rarely change much so if your date is not on the system yet just plug in an earlier one that is.

I believe the above poster errs with the rail website -

it is

www.bahn.de

no need to use another site to get this in english- just click on language desired top right .

Salzburg - Prague schedule also found on

austrian rail site

www.oebb.at
also available in english
various discounts available too.-
some times the lobo shuttle on this route is desirsable to some - you can google for the website.

No but you missed my main point in referring folks to that home page link - that they give several explicit tips on how to fully utilize the great bahn.de site - things that would not always be apparent if you just click on the British flag on bahn.de - that is the point you missed, apparently. I have spoken to folks who indeed are perplexed by the bahn.de site's English page - yes you must think them to be dolts but they are not. A few tips are great and that is why I do and will suggest that link to the Wunderbar www.bahn.de site.

PS - Things that seem obvious and a snap to Germans or Austrians who speak German are not all that simple to Americans just encountering www.bahn.de - try to for once put yourself into the mindset of a naive American tourist and do not assume everyone is so so savvy as yourself.

I like the bahn.de and the oebb.at sites, but also use the one below because I'm used to it.

It not only gives me the various times of departure in one easy to read list but it also provides - below the short list - the cities where the changes (if any) take place and even sometimes the train track from which the connecting train will depart.

http://plannerint.b-rail.be/bin/query.exe/en?L=profi&

It's good to know the connecting track because sometimes there's a very short time to get to the connecting train.

Using this site, there appears to be only one nonstop train leaving Salzburg Hbf at 4:39am and arriving Prague at 11:01am.

Some would not consider americans to be naive and base advice on that reasoning.

I least I can give the correct spelling of the website to posters.

actually www.bhan.de does work. It redirects you to the correct spelling, www.bahn.de

and again you missed my point for using that site's link - that they give several really useful tips on how to fully use the bahn.de site that you do not get just by going directly to bahn.de site. Austrian mind-sets may think bahn.de is self-explanatory but it ain't and I've talked to several folks who were perplexed at it on first encounter - thus the valuable tips IMO in my link are very useful to folks first time using bahn.de

Austrian mind sets ? I do not think I miss your point - simply believe in the basic intelligence of most posters who can use the bahn site withouit much problem- many seem able to do it.

At least we Austrians know that in reply to the question posed here some months ago " Heuriger in/ near Vienna " where to recommend. Unlike you who recommended the place- Olewig

just one problem with this - the recommended village is in Germany. Now that can be perplexing to someone looking for wine in Vienna.

Not to get into the middle of this international brouhaha over the intelligence of the average American traveler,

but, as an average American traveler with very limited German language skills, I found the bahn.de and oebb.at sites extremely useful.

bahn.de even led me to a terrific site: eurail.com which provided me - in English - just about everything I - an average American traveler - would want to know, especially about travel on German railroads.

It even got me, a woman, interested into looking at pictures of the different types of trains which can whoosh along at incredible speeds. I can assure you that the shape and speed of trains were of the minutist (is that a word?) interest up till now.

For those planning to travel by train in Europe, there is one more site that I've been using - seat61.com.

Now, if someone could just tell me which train to take out of Dubrovnik (hehe! jut kidding!)

Seems someone fails to take his medication.

For those who will travel the route Vienna- Salzburg in the future.

A new private firm has proposed a new ,fast and inexpensive train service between these two cities.
Current plan is for this to begin service about 1 year from now.
The trains to be new, modern style , comfortable interiors etc. - the firm will rent the track time from Austrian Rail and have frequent service- They say - much better than that of Austrian Rail.
The group is composed of responsible austrian businessmen so this is not a unreliable or under capitalized entity. It appears most needed permissions already received.

Hopefully this happens and gives the traveler good and cheaper options on this route.

What's with these Austrians? Is it something in the water? Or, more likely beer?

It's the "ü". LOL. Real Austrians know the difference between "u" and "ü" and don't confuse those letters, Americans don't.
Other than that they're o.k.
