Dingle vs. Ring of Kerry

I am planning ahead for a trip to Ireland sometime within the next few years. Our last trip was in 2002! This time we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, and we hope to bring our two sons and their families... 6 adults and 3 children total. Both my husband and I have family ties to Kerry area so this will definitely be one of our destinations. In past trips, we have opted to stay in Dingle - which we loved - and took a day trip to Kerry to check out the family areas (Castle Island, Milltown & Cahirciveen) Thinking perhaps to stay this time along the Ring of Kerry instead of in Dingle, though I don't know much about that area. What do you think? Any thoughts, suggestions and/or recommendations for either area would be very welcome! Thank you so much!

Why don't you do both? Split up your vacation or just take a day trip. I love doing four or five days but with such a big group that might be hard. Are you renting a house?

If you have already done Dingle why not stay in Kenmare this time on the Ring of Kerry. There are some fantastic self catering houses there - Dunkerron Woods. There is lots to see and do in and around Kenmare. You can continue on the Ring of Kerry taking in Sneem, Staigue Fort, Derrynane House/Caherdaniel Beach, Portmagee, Valentia Island . Skellig Chocolate factory is a well spent 30mins or so. Or go the other way from Kenmare and do the Beara Pennisula - absolutely breathtaking also. You could still do Dingle for a day trip and not miss out on that experience on your trip also. If I won the Lotto - I'd retire to Kenmare - my idea of heaven.

Kenmare is a beautiful town and a great place to explore other areas. Killarney National Park was a great place to visit.
