Dim Sum in London

Hello!
I did a search on this topic, but only found a thread from 2006 so I was hoping to find some more recent suggestions for a good, relatively inexpensive place to have dim sum while in London. Thanks so much!

I've always liked the Jade Garden on Wardour Street.

I don't know the name but there's a place in the queensway shopping centre in bayswater that always has a queue outside it. It's reckoned to be the mutt's nutts.

Royal China has several branches--one in Queensway, the main one in Baker St as well as another one in Canary Wharf. Gets jampacked on weekends though less crowded on other days. Quite authentic (accordin to my Chiense friends) and good value. They also have fancier versions Royal China Club (next to RC in Baker St, another one in St John's Wood). I believe the menu/prices are pretty much the same across the branches.

I also heard about Jade Garden. Also Golden Dynasty. The only place I know where they still do wagon service is New World on Gerrard Place (Chinatown), though frankly I don't think the quality is as good as RC.

There are other trendier, fusion-style dimsum places like Yautcha or Pingpont, but to be honest, I think they tend to serve over-priced, westernised food.

Not to state the obvious, but DimSum is mid-day (usually 11:00am-3:00pm), you won't find them in the evenings.

Chuen Cheng Ku in Wardour Street also does trolley service.

The food's not outstanding, but it's supremely comforting. One of the few longlasting, never stunning but never mediocre, attitude-free, big eateries in London. Most of the other recs here are a bit - well, fashionable.

Alright, not all.

But most. Some of the Royal China waitresses speak English, for example. Just one aspect of how all these noove places are going downhill and destroying our traditions.

Quite unBritish, if you ask me.

Royal China is a good call. I have only been to the one in Canary Wharf but on a sunny day this is my favourite in London.

Actually, Queensway is full of Chinese restaurants, many of which are pretty good. Kam Tong (I think) has decent dim sum (and excellent duck and noodle soup), and they're very nice to children. But it's not at all fancy.

If you do want to eat Dim Sum in the evening you could try Ping Pong - it is a chain of dim sum restaurants. Yes, it is not the most authentic place for dim sum, but the restaurants are nice, food fine and they also do some interesting and delicious cocktails.

Information on the various branches and some reviews here:
