I've used sleepinitaly before and will use them again in August. No problems thus far!

Dear Frenchtraveller:

Please share with me which apartment you stayed in near the Pantheon.

Thanks

Hi, Sorry for not replying -- I just found this follow up to the old post.

frenchtraveller,

I was very surpised too after reading good reviews here on fodors. I really didn't have any concern about renting from them based on the feedback I saw. I've since learned that while switching, etc., is not common, it is no that unusual either.

I'm glad your expeience with sleepinitaly was good, but I would never take a chance with them again.

NeoPatrick,

The stuff was overbooking as they clearly state in their email to me: "Yesterday I did not write you back as I had a
very serious problem to solve and I wanted to find a solution before telling you about that. I am very sorry but unfortunately I need to
change your accommodation due to an overbooking. I hope you understand the situation and my
sincerity...I could have made up a very good excuse but I rather tell you the truth."

While the truth is nice, nothing is mentioned about why WE and not the other renter had to be moved. It also didn't do a thing for getting us a decent apartment. We absolutely abhored the one they assigned us, and it definitely cast a pall over our visit.

When descibing what happened to us with the rental, I tried very hard to stick to the facts and not "bad mouth" the agency. I know others have had good experiences with them. But, I found it very difficult to be philosophical and forgiving while sitting in a dump.

Since I am the original poster for this thread I'll mentioned that we used Sleep in Italy and absolutely loved the apt. They even fixed a broken toilet within an hour and a half from when we reported it. No problems at all with the agency or the apt. Here's the one we stayed in, in January of 2007.

sandi, As I mentioned previously, I had a good experience communicating with the agency. They were always very responsive to emails, even those after the "mishap."

If disappointed customers were the norm, they wouldn't be in business. Glad you had a good experience, and just wish I had.

We have booked with Realrome this coming October- have rented on numerous occasions but not in Rome. I did masses of research as we particularly wanted a terrace or view and very centrally located. I found amazing price variances between agencies and many apartments were so incredibly small. I narrowed it down to one with sleepinitaly and 2 with realrome. I simply felt more comfortable with Tim's responses - and responsiveness and was a little concerned at the number of 'bumpings' from the other.
