Did "The Italian Job" make you want a Mini Cooper?

I'm test driving a mini cooper convertible at the weekend - have wanted one for ages. Last I heard the waiting list here (UK) is 3 months, which is just about long enough for me to miss the sunshine completely til next year.

Ladies and Gentlemen....
You're looking at a post from the new owner of a 2006 Chili Red Mini Cooper!!!
I decided I had to get it NOW because the 2007 models look kind of stubby. I like a more squared look in cars.
Within 5 minutes of driving back to work, everyone was yelling, 'DID YOU GET A NEW RED MINI COOPER?!' Then later one of our security guards and I wandered through the parking lot to randomly knock on other cars, then knock on mine, to demonstrate how solid the little thing is.
Then I got home and my neighbors gathered 'round to oooh and aaah.
I didn't get the Hermes scarf, Bill. but I still feel cool!

Melissa, I bought one on Saturday!
A convertible in pepper white (I like the retro feel of the pepper white). Now I have to wait about 6 weeks for delivery as there's a back log of orders boohoo.

If you're going to re-make a movie, then do it properly. If you're going to use the same title, names and gimmick and that's it then you have 2002's The Italian Job.
This was a great opportunity to re-make a classic with enough sympathy and sufficient nods to the original to make it different yet retaining all the excitement and fun of the 1969 version but somewhere along the line all of this is missing.
The remake was an awful movie. It's no coincidence that the film goes into a tailspin once Bridger (Donald Sutherland) dies early on. There's no substance here, it's just stunts, unlikely scenarios and unlikely set-up scenes for forthcoming plot turns (I mean, who calls the cable company as soon as you lose a signal - don't you fiddle with the cables, wires, check plugs etc? And when the cable 'girl' comes, do you expect her to start opening doors for some spurious reason?).
The car chases are fun; nothing like the original but fun nonetheless. The remainder is mediocre. Scripted, cliched and obvious.
However, if BMW wish to loan me a Cooper S, I'd happily change my opinion.

You've all just missed it. But it's now a regular annual event.
www.miniinthepark.co.uk
Thousands of them. All over the place. Proper ones. Not new-fangled BMW lookalikes.
Half the Cotswolds last weekend looked like the set for the real (Michael Caine, Noel Coward, etc) "Italian Job" film.
The entire population kept breaking out into "This is the Self-Preservation Society". When they weren't going "Duh, duh, duh duh duh. Duh duh duh duh. England"
Put it in your diaries for next year.

Hi
I have a 2003Mini Cooper. I love it and would not want to buy another model unless its the 2007 or the upcoming Mini Traveler. I have to use premium, my transmission went several weeks ago and Mini picked up the cost to replace it. It's hard for some people to understand at times but I'm 63 yrs old and wish I had the car years ago. I would buy it again.

I just bought a 2006 Pepper white Mini w/black sunroof top and absolutely adore it. It's so much fun! Couldn't afford the Cooper S, but don't think I really need it, it's quite peppy. Although I would like another gear to shift it into on the highway. I feel pretty safe in it, it doesn't feel as small on the inside as it looks. My husband is 6' and is very comfortable in it.
Found this link online.

I guess we can all agree on one thing from the movie:
We all want a Mini Cooper.
Things I want from Charlize Theron:
A body like hers
And more importantly, her parking bravado! I could use a skill like that in NYC! C
That, and I want Mark Wahlberg as my boyfriend...
