Diabetic Supplies
I will be going to Moscow next week. I am a diabetic. I interested in hearing from anyone that has had any experience with Russian Customs as to medicines, insulin, blood testing equipment and syringes being taken into the Country. I have my Pharmacy listing showing all of my prescriptions in my name.
Thanks

I cannot speak about Russia but I am also a Diabetic. I have traveled to Panama, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and several Carribean Islands without incident. I recently traveled to New York with syringes in my carry-on without even any mention from the security detail(which I thought was odd). In addition to the pharmacy prescription labels on all items, I would strongly suggest a letter from your doctor with the doctors' letter head on it stating your medical condition and the need for the medical supplies. With that, I seriously doubt that you will meet any resistance with customs from any country.

Thank you so much for your reply. Your experiences are just as mine have been for trips I have taken within the USA and to Ireland. Your more extensive overseas travel without incident is encouraging. Thanks again and watch that sugar!

When we were in Russia last fall. When we exited from Moscow, they did not worry at all about the needles and test unit, but showed great interest in the extra insulin cartridges, we had to show them how they fit in the injection device. The word in Russian for diabetic is almost the same as in English and should be understood.

Garfield, thanks for the input. Good suggestion about knowing enough Russian to communicate a problem. I am fortunate in that I will be travelling with my brother who speaks a little Russian and has given me a list of the words and phrases I might need.
