Denmark and Norway

How does the tipping work in Copenhagen, Oslo and Bergen? Also what is the best way to get around the cities? I really appreciate everyones responses to my other threads. This is my first experience with Fodor's Forum and it's been awesome!

tipping is not done by many Europeans as there is always it seems a Service Charge automatically added to the bill of 15-20%. And, wait people get paid a living wage with benefits by law so don't need to grovel for tips.

All those cities are very walkable with easy-to-use buses or trams or metros if needed. Getting between those cities is easy to by trains and the Oslo-Bergen train is not to be missed - one of most scenic in Europe - there is an overnight ferry Copenhagen to Oslo and v.v. but you may want t fly Copenhagen to Bergen and take train back to Oslo - of course don't miss Norway in Nutshell excursion and could incorporate into a day Bergen to Oslo. For lots on European trains check www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com. There is also an overnight train Oslo-Bergen and v.v.

But city transports are so so great don't even think of taking a cab.

Service charge is included in meals at restaurants so no need to tip, but when I pay by cash, I normally round up the amount.

Traditionally folks paid cash and left a few small change coins but now with c c taking over I guess this is mute - and again no reason to add tip on credit card. Again waiters are paid living wage unlike U.S.where they depend on tips which are expected though not mandatory.
