Denmark - First time!

Actually, I am visiting my pen pal of 30 years! (We met the first time in my home 3 years ago). I am going at the very end of March (great airfare!) I will be staying in her home in a town one hour southwest of Copenhagen, not too far from Naestved and the island of Mon. She asked me to let her know of anything I REALLY would like to see. She will plan a nice itinerary, with plenty of time for us to just visit. But, I would look forward to any suggestions. I will be there 7 days so I don't think we will have time to travel out of DK. Thanks!

You'll kick yourself if you travel all that way and don't see Copenhagen--a beautiful and "cosy" city ("hyggelit" they say). Even though it will be cold, a brisk walk down Strøget for some shopping, a walk to the top of the Round Tower while you're strolling Strøget for a great view of the city, a peek in some of their more famous churches ("kirkes") like the Marble Church and Our Saviors, as well as the National Museum and art museums like Ny Carlsberg and Statens Museum for Kunst, a snaps in a cosy cafe in Nyhavn, maybe a jaunt over to Sweden (just to say you've been--only $7 ferry ride), and a walk through Christiania to see Denmark's social tolerance toward "organic" drug use. Other highlights include the Viking museum in Roskilde, Hans Christian Anderson museum (can't think the name of the town--it's on Fyn), Fredericksborg Castle (aka "Hamlet's" castle) which is next door to another ferry service that crosses to Sweden, and back in Copenhagen Rosenborg Castle and the Crown jewels--a neat castle very close to Strøget. Have fun!
What a fabulous opportunity. I never kept a pen pal for more than a few months. Actually, Hamlet's castle in Helsingor is Kronborg (I thing that is the spelling). Wherever you go, you will have a great time.
If you happen to be over on the Jutland portion (the western land that juts out from Germany) perhaps to visit Legoland or the historic town of Ribe in the Southern portion, you might want to drive up to the Northern tip and visit the picturesque town of Skagen. It would be at least a two hour drive from Vejle.

I will be staying on Sealand, but I know of Jutland. I did not think Legoland would be open in March. Is it?

Dear Lu: Lucky, lucky you! I can't improve on the suggestions already made but I envy you. Denmark is such a delightful country and the people are a treasure. The days will still be short
--but enjoy them to the full. And be sure to eat those herring! Um-m-m. Joan
