Delta: Super Sale to Europe 12/3/05

"Super Sale to Europe"

That's what it says on the Delta site this morning. Frankly, I didn't find any bargains. But
thought I'd post this just in case someone
might be luckier than I.

I found some pretty decent fares to various European destinations from the U.S. while perusing the Northwest site last night. These were for winter travel into March. It's worth looking, for sure. One quick way:

http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap...ce=TRAVELOCITY

Plug in your origin airport, a ceiling price and select "To Western Europe".

Well, if winter to almost spring deals are starting to show up, summer specials can't be too far behind! We are still looking for those tickets to Rome in July.

Flyboy, my husband just tried out your quick way to research prices and he said to thank you since it was a new way to him. In my own post on help with finding good prices, I said the bargain hunters here are so much more skilled at it than we are and this proves it.

Thanks, Flyboy!

FlyBoy:
I tried that page, but the fares that come up are invariably much higher than the one displayed on the map.

I'm still finding the best fares at 1800FlyEurope.com. I haven't proceeded all the way to check out yet, so I may be in for an unpleasant surprise.

I got all excited when I saw the Delta site announcement...been dreamin' of those "companion fares" (2nd person flies for $1~!). At this point, tho, I'd settle for anything under $600 for a January trip!

Still very expensive to cross the ocean from your side. I managed to get a roundtrip ticket Frankfurt-Fort Myers for 198,-€ in January incl. all taxes

JeanneB, the lowest fares always have conditions on them such as days/dates of travel, minimum stays, etc. They also sell out, so it's important to get in on the front end of fare sales. But I tested some against airline websites and found them available from my origin. (As always, results will vary.) Good luck!

I'm just not having any luck with it. I've tried Departure Cities: Atlanta, JFK, Newark, Chicago, Washington, etc. The fares look good on the map, but when I click and go through to booking the fares look nothing like the ones on the map.

We're travelling Jan/Feb, mid week...just can't believe I can't find a good winter fare. Maybe with all the bankruptcy talk, there won't be any real winter savings this year. Sigh.

Wow, you SHOULD really be able to do well with the kind of flexibility you're allowing and the period you are looking at. I'm heading out for coffee right now, but if you care to shoot me an e-mail at:

[email protected]

(Replace the Xs with the logical replacement letters -- data mining defense, you know...)

If I have the approximate dates you're trying to travel, preferred origin/destination(s) -- (I see you have a number of alternate origins, too) -- preferred carriers, then I can mess with it a little on my end and see if I can come up with anything better.

I managed to get an astounding fare of $408 r/t (including taxes) on Northwest Detroit-Frankfurt-Paris-Detroit for March. But I'm sure that sale is over - it was one of those one week superspecials.

Boy, that Delta sale is a joke. Not only did I find fares well over a thousand dollars for June but they had us flying all over the world to get JFK to Venice. I'll keep checking daily as I have since September.

I got a Fare Watcher email from Travelocity to day saying they had flights from Dayton, OH to Rome for $425. I didn't check it out.

Isn't that a bit harsh? Doesn't the sale say it is for travel through March?

Best wishes,

Big Kudos to Flyboy!!!

With his tip about Northwest/KLM, we booked right from our hometown (Mobile) to Rome, returning from Paris for $516!!!! Connections are thru Memphis/Amsterdam.

Boy, do I ever feel stupid. As many of you will recognize, I've been checking fares for almost a year now (our October trip was knocked out by Katrina). Northwest just never got on my radar screen---I guess because they're not linked to many of the fare search websites like Travelocity. Orbitz DID offer this itinerary, but it was more expensive than the NW site.

Thanks, Flyboy...and Fodors!
