This is not exact an answer to your reply- i am going in december as well. From what i heard, it's chilly, but not that bad. The temp is about 40-57, a sweather may just be enough. We shall see what other people say.
My husband and I are thinking of going over Christmas but I heard everything is closed from November to Easter. Does anyone know if this is true?

Not true. Many, but not all, hotels and restaurants close at the end of October. A few which do close reopen for 10 days around Christmas/New Years. Others remain open all year. You must enquire with each hotel.

Well, for what it's worth, I've been to Pompeii right around Christmas Day. It's chilly, can be overcast or usually sunny. Light jacket weather. BUT Italy is having extremely bizarre weather this year, so it's anyone's guess. Hailstorms, drought, heat wave, etc. If nothing else, the food is incredible- pizza and seafood, and buffalo mozzarella.
