December in Spain?

My husband and I are planning about two weeks in Spain next December (to celebrate our 10th anniversary). We have traveled a lot in Europe but have never been to Spain. Our main interest is seeing the wonderful art museums. We generally like to stay in a place for four or five days at a time -- which would mean probably going to only three cities. Can anyone suggest which cities might be best bets (besides Madrid -- that's a given because of the Prado). How would we travel between them -- by train? What would it be like to be in Spain over Christmas or New Year's Eve? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

In December, you should consider heading south to Sevilla, Ronda and Malaga (Picasso museum). It may rain a bit, but will be somewhat nicer then Madrid and other inland points.

You could take an hour flight to Barcelona and an hour flight to SanSebastian. Don't know for sure about the weather.

The weather in San Sebastian-Donostia may be a little iffy during December for most people, but it's actually a lot like being in Seattle, a little rain, some sun and the occasional snowfall, but never that unpleasant. And it's always a beautiful city, regardless of the weather.

If you are traveling to Spain in December I would recommend Madrid, Seville and Barcelona for your three stops. Weather in the south tends to be better than in the north at this time of year based on my research and personal experience of Spain. Train from Madrid to Seville is only a couple of hours. Fly between Seville and Barcelona. Daytrips from these three bases can get you to such interesting places such as Segovia, Toledo, Cordoba, Rhonda, white towns, Granada.......

Just got back. DEFINITLY make Sevilla one of your stops. Especially in December, it'll be a little warmer than Madrid or Barcelona
