De La Ville Intercontinental

I am planning a visit to Rome in early September. I am thinking of staying at the De La Ville Intercontinental. Has any one stayed there? Any opinions?
Hello Eric,
We stayed there for 4 nights this past June at the beginning of our Italy trip. It's at the top of and behind the Spanish steps, convenient for walking around. Room had full bath, view of city. My husband had tipped the check in clerk to get us up on top floor (5th or 6th, can't remember how high) to avoid street noise. We heard
other guests who were lower down complain about street noise.
It's a nice, elegant hotel, price included contintental breakfast - croissant/coffee/juice - could pay more for full breakfast which we didn't do. We probably would stay there again.

Hi Eric,
I stayed at the De la Ville in April(high season) We used their Business package For $250USincl tax. This gave us a large upgraded room with 2 DOUBLE beds (unusual in Italy) no breakfast, overlooking Sistina.
Pros: the beds were very comfortable, bathroom with great shower/bath, triple paned windows that really kept the noise out. Good a/c. Nice courtyard for dinner or drinks. Professional staff.
Cons: Room sparsely furnished and a little jaded. Spanish Steps tiring after long day. I don't know what to compare it to price wise in Rome but I would not pay more than we did for a room there. Ask for a room overlooking courtyard and higher up. Hope this helps.
A.M.

Good evening, Eric We stayed at th DE LA VILLE INTERCONTINENTAL at the top
of the Spanish Steps. The hotel and its
service and accomodations were very excellant, rear rooms are queiter than
street side ones.. Especially enjoyed
their barman who treated us like royalty
The only thing, we did not like was whenever we were going down to the Corso/Condotti area where most of the
ristorantes and shops are we had to
walk down the steps and later climb them
or make about a two block uphill walk
to get to the Sistina...If we were going
to Rome again, would probably revisit
the De La Ville again.
Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

Ricahrd,

You could have walked a little more by Via Due Macelli, on the right of the piazza, and then made a left to Via Capo le Case to reach Via Sistina. It's not a long walk, and it would have spared you from climbing the steps.

Surlok

Eric (and Richard):

I totally agree with the other posters. I have stayed several times at the De La Ville. I'm certainly going to stay there when in Rome again next time.

As to the steps: Across the street in front of the church (S. Trinità dei Monti) there is an entrance to the subway stop. You can take its elevator to the level of the piazza and back up.

Hope this helps

Phil.
