DDay Tours

Recommendation! We are leaving for France on Sunday and want to take a D-Day tour in Normandy. Please recommend a highly rated, well-informed tour/guide for us!

If you mean a private tour next week, I think you may be too late to be asking this question. Whatever. Type "D-Day tour guide" in the search box. There have been many threads on this subject.

We do not need a private tour but one with a maximum of about 8 persons. Are we too late?

Are you interested in a d-day daytrip tour from Paris or Bayeux or where?

www.battlebus.com

I loved them as do many other fodorites (use the search function above to see many very favorable mentions of the group). We did a one day American sites tour with them but with more time we'd have gone back for at least one more day with them.

Keep your fingers crossed that Colonel Warman is available for your tour.

He took us on a fantastic tour of Normandy last December. He meets you at the train station, you rent a car and he conducts the tour. Colonel Warman was taught by professors who were there on Day 1 and he knows more personal stories and can take you places that the standard bus tour can't do. Be prepared for lots of walking even if it's raining - he won't notice! We were just 3 - my husband and I and our 14 year-old son. We were obviously very impressed. We booked a couple of months ahead and had to send a check as a deposit, but maybe you can use a Visa. Email me at verbier7@comcastnet if you want more info. You're lucky you have more time than we did.

Another vote for Battlebus; hope you're not too late in reserving space on any tour especially if you want the 6-8 person mini van-type experience.

Or, you can go to the Travel Information Bureau and hire a guide with van for 70-90€ per carload (up to 7).

We've also hired a driver in the parking lot of Bayeux station. If you don't speak French, get there early, because the anglophones are the first ones to be engaged.
