Loved the cathedral in Autun and the neighborhood around it. If you're interested, click on my username to find my trip report and links to photos from our Burgundy visit. As I noted in one of my earlier posts here, we do a lot of planning, then always enjoy looking back to see what we actually did because the itinerary is always a work in progress as we go along.
Burgundy offers many wonderful choices and I'd love to have more time there to explore.

A lot of great info here. I'm thinking I should take Stu along as a tour guide. We are headed to Beaune for a week next September - will definitely check out some of the recommendations!
Thanks to everyone for their recommendations!

In Beaune, I had a great meal here: http://www.caveau-des-arches.com/res...estaurant.html
I enjoyed the chateau of Vauban and it is not that far from Vezelay.

We also enjoyed the many excellent suggestions of itineraries and routes. We are in the very beginning stages of planning a trip to Burgundy next September also. We want to base ourselves in Dijon or Beaune or somewhere that is convenient to day trips in the area.

For Franche Comte recommend the first episode of the BBC series Raymond Blanc: The Very Hungry Frenchman, available on DVD, and which screened here in Australia just last night on SBS, our public multicultural and multilingual broadcaster. [Burgundy's up next, followed by Lyon, Alsace, and then Provence]
