Daytrip to Sitges
I'll be in Barcelona with 3 buddies for a few days before leaving on a cruise. Thinking about heading down to Sitges to party one day/night. What's the best way to get there and back. Is there a late returning train? I understand the fun doesn't get going until late. Can't stay over already paid for Barcelona Hotel. Anyone got any ideas?

I've just had a look at the RENFE website and it looks like the last train from Sitges to Barcelona is at 10:26pm. The next one after that is at 4:49am, so if you can keep partying till then, you're OK!

To look up the train times for yourself, the website is www.renfe.es/hir. It's almost entirely in Spanish, but to get the local train timetables click on "Cercanias" on the right hand side. Then select Barcelona from the list in the middle.

You get a screen which is mostly self-explanatory - you don't really need to understand Spanish except for a few bits. Underneath the departure and destination station selection lists you can choose either to look at general timetables for certain days of the week:
Laborable (Martes a Jueves)=Tuesday to Thursday
Lunes y despues de festivo=Mondays and days after festivals
Viernes=Friday
Sabado=Saturday
Domingos y festivos=Sundays and festivals
Or you can look by a specific date
Then you can search by time of departure (hora de salida) or time of arrival (hora de llegada) and choose your time.

The last trains back seem to leave pretty early, the last train from the airport (which would be an alternative - taxi from Sitges) also is surprisingly early - around 11 PM.

So...taxi or one-day rental car may be your best alternatives. Split 4 ways the cost should be easy to handle. There's a big taxi stand next to the Sitges train station, probably for good reason...

Bob,

We stayed in Sitges last year for a week, rather than staying in Barcelona. - We were a group of 8, all under 30. We also thought there would be a problem with partying in Barcelona as the last train back to Sitges is at about 10pm and the next one at 6am the following morning. Believe me, this was NO PROBLEM! Clubs go late. As a matter of fact, when we partied until we could go no more, we were surprised to find it was 8am!

We also went out in Sitges where there are clubs/bars that open up at 3am, after the other ones close up. So, don't worry, take the train. I would hate for you guys to through the added expense of a car and the possibility of driving while intoxicated. Besides, this allows you to take a 30 minute nap on the train. Pretty comfy if I recall correctly. Needless to say, we had a blast.
