Daytrip from Hamburg
On May 31st, our cruise ship will dock at the Altoona pier in Hamburg from 7:00AM until 10:00 PM. Any suggestions for a easy day trip we could do by train in less than an hour or so? Thanks in advance.

Yes, either Bremen or Lübeck for bigger cities, or little Buxtehude on the outskirts of Hamburg.
Bremen and Buxtehude are both part of the German Fairy Tale Route (Deutsche Märchenstrasse), Bremen in particular has the four city musicians (after the fairy tale) - if you grasp the front legs of the donkey you are sure to return to Bremen. There is also a very cool Ratskeller (a city restaurant in many German cities which has local dishes, under the town hall), the town hall, the statue of Roland (who has the keys to the city, it's a city-state like Hamburg), and the Schnoor district. There is also Beck's Bier - I think you can tour the factory.
Lübeck has the amazing Holstentor and all the Brick Gothic architectural style, and Café Niederegger (18th century café that specialises in marzipan and which exports marzipan around the world). Order a Mazipan-Kaffee or eat one of the amazing cakes.
Buxtehude is small but pretty. It would not keep you for a whole day, but if you did not want to go far afield that might be your best bet.
