Day trips from Madrid to Segovia, Avila and Toledo in train??
We are visiting Madrid in June, for a wedding and would like to take day trips
from Madrid to Segovia, Avila and Toledo., we have not decided if we should rent
a car, or instead take the train.
Please any suggestions., what train the AVE? I would love to hear some suggestions.,
to make a decision, but we are not sure about which train or itineraries.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Go to www.renfe.es for timetables and prices. The train from Madrid Chamartin station goes to Segovia Av. It's called "Alvia". The train to Toledo leaves from Atocha station, it's called "Avant".

We also did day trips to Segovia and Toledo from Madrid about a year ago when we were there.
We were given wrong information at our hotel regarding the train to Segovia on that particular day so we ended up taking the bus - a longer ride but we were not pressed for time and we enjoyed it.
For Toledo we did take the fast train and it really is fast, less than 30 minutes. It was lovely. We were told to already buy our return tickets when we bought the tickets TO Toledo at the train station, as this is a popular route and gets booked quickly. We had trouble deciding before even getting to Toledo how much time we would want/need to spend there. But we took an 8:30 or 9:00 AM train there and booked the 18:30 train back. In the end we were at the train station early and managed to get on the 17:30 train back.
Enjoy, they are beautiful cities!!

Have you read Maribel's guides? That info is detailed there.
Look under madrid section.

THANKS, to all!!!
I will go to the Renfe.es. and find out.
And also the guide is very helpful, but too
long.....
The 15 of June, we are renting a car in
Madrid, and driving to La Rioja, and
to San Sebastian., so we are looking
foward to the Basque country.
Thanks again, you were very helpful.
