Day Trips from London
Finally booked my stay for 4 nights in London. We were thinking about making a day trip to another country from London for a day. Do you have any suggestions where to go? We were thinking maybe Paris, France? We are just looking to go somewhere that we can enjoy ourselves for the day and then head back later that day or night. Also, is there any companies that run day trips that you suggest we look in to?? Thanks for your help!

Why would you want to go to another country when you only have 4 nights in London? You'll have to get up at the crack of dawn & return on the last train to make it worthwhile which means your next day is going to be curtailed. If you wanted to incorporate a trip to another country then you should book your tickets so that you - for example - fly into London and out of Paris so you don't spend time having to return to London.
But if you insist then your basic options from central London are Brussels or Paris by Eurostar. Book as soon as the tickets become available some 120 days before date of travel.

4 nights in London is brief so if it's a first visit I stay put especially if you will have jet lag to deal with too.
Paris would be the easiest option for a day trip if you must go somewhere else. Consider that travel time though!
Approximately 5 hours travel time by train plus you have to show up approx 45 mins early for international train travel.. then add in time to get to the train station so total travel time about 7-8 hours.

Is this your first trip to London? If so, my first reaction is that there is way too much to see there to spend a very long day daytripping to another country in the middle of a four-night (three-day?) trip. London has TONS to do.
That isn't what you asked, though. If you really want to daytrip, Paris is the easiest, most obvious choice and has been done by several people here. It will be a long day but may be worth it to you. The train takes about three hours each way; make sure to plan in transport time to/from the train stations to what you want to do (may be minimal, may not, depending on where you're staying and what you want to see in Paris). Book as far ahead as possible for the lowest Eurostar fares.
If there are specific things you want to see wherever you go, I would do a lot of research ahead of time to make sure you use your time most efficiently - how to get from Gare du Nord to Notre Dame and then to the Eiffel Tower, or whatever.

OK -- I'm not being rude here -- I honestly want to know . . .
From your other thread, after your short stay in London you are flying on to Rome. So -- why do you want/need to leave London to tack on another country?
W/ just 4 days you really don't have the time for a day trip w/i England let alone to some other country.
What sorts of things interest you? Then we can help you decide which few of the MANY major sites in London you could squeeze into your 3+ days there.

Honestly, I ask because I want to do it but I would like to hear the input from others. I am spending 4 days in London and 4 days in Rome. I originally planned to do London and Paris but decided to fly to Rome instead so we would like to see Paris while we are there.
Doubtful that we will do a day trip, just was looking for some advice, and I got it. Thank you.

Just a note--a daytrip to Paris or Brussels is very doable. Only you can decide if it is worth the time. If this is apt to be your only trip to Europe , then I would say you should definately go for it.Seize the moment, see as much as you can, cram as much into each day as possible. If you plan to return again, then I would spend the whole time in London. Several years ago we did the opposite, a daytrip from Brussels to London for a day. Granted we had been to London numerous times, but the process was the same. If you are a relatively active person, then the early morning departure and late return should not be a factor. This is the type of trip that you expect to be a little physically taxing, after all, you can rest up at home. You haven't traveled that far to just sit in your hotel room and relax.
If you do decide to do the daytrip, then plan ahead. Do your research.Pick one area to explore or a daytrip is an ideal time to take a hop on. hop off sightseeing trip. You won't have time to see everything or visit a lot of museumss, but you can get a feel for the city, have a great lunch and have a memorable day.
