day trips from Granada & Seville

We are planning a visit to Spain in April to see our daughter who will be in Granada. We would like to spend several days in Granada and the rest in Seville. We are worried that we will run out of tings to do if we spend four days in Granada- are there enough days trips from both cities to keep us busy- say four days in Granada and three in Seville? Can these trips be arranged by bus- I don't know if I want to drive. Thanks.

Patrick,
I can't help you very much with Granada, but in three days you won't run out of things to do in Seville. If you want, you can take a day trip to Cordoba from Seville.(train is great) The mosque is fantastic. Cordoba is overrun with daytrippers, though, so be aware of that should you decide to make it a day excursion.

Michele

There are many interesting places not far from Granada but I really do not know if they all are doable by bus. These could be LaCalahorra Castle with its wonderful renaissance courtyard that offer beautiful views over Sierra Nevada/Guadix cathedral and dwellings, going east taking the highway, another interesting side trip could be Las Alpujarras (Pampaneira, Capileira, Bubión and if you drive there is an special place close to Portugos called La Fuente Agria with reddish mossy walls. Nerja/Its Caves/Almuñecar/Subtropical cultures/Salobreña castle could easily be another day trip. Montefrío is also one of the most picturesque towns in Central Andalucía. From Sevilla, Carmona, a charming small town packed with old buildings(churches, palaces) and an interesting Roman Graveyard, Italica roman ruins or Aracena/Its wonderful caves/Almonaster old small Mosque might be your options.

Why not rent a car for a day or two and visit some of the white villages (Arcos de la Frontera is within easy reach from Sevilla and the road is very calm and easy to drive). Cordoba is a 'must see'. I found it even more worthwhile than Sevilla. You could also take a daytrip to Ronda.
Don't worry: you will have lots more to see and do than you would expect.

Kelley,

Montefrío is just a small white washed town in an absolutely picturesque setting surrounded by olive tree fields. It is nice to know rural Andalucia but I would probably suggest you to stay in Granada, lively and with many sights to see although if you want to experience staying in a rural house Montefrío might suit all your needs. As a particular recommendation, if you go to Salobreña, Restaurant Pesetas is nice and in April they might be serving in the upstairs terrace overlooking the roofs of the Old Town. These are some we adresses where you may find some information about those towns:

Montefrío
http://www1.elpais.es/andalucia/uk/pueblos/078a_montefrio.htm

Salobreña
http ://www.andalucia.com/salobrena/home.htm

http://www1.elpais.es/andalucia/uk/pueblos/080a_salobrena.htm

Nerja
http://www.bd-andalucia.es/cuevanerja.html

http://www.guideofnerja.com/en/

http://www.andalucia.com/nerja/home.htm

I forgot to mention Frigiliana, a beautiful small village up in the mountains close to Nerja.

I fully agree with Pedro on Frigiliana. It is the most beautiful pueblo blanco I've seen (been there last month) and only 10 min. drive when you're in Nerja (which was very enjoyable as well). Pictures? Look at http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/.125633/article/185/48

I do not think that you will be bored in either city. We spent at least 3 days in Granada and it was our favorite city in spain. Be sure to explore the tapas bars in the neighborhood behind Plaza Nuevo. I also don't htink 3 days in Seville is too much.

I would concur with the recommendation to day trip to Cordoba. We spent 2 days there -- it was too much.

Gibraltar would be a *very* long drive from Granada/Seville.

I read about one-day trip to Cordoba (from Seville). I wonder how long it takes to drive there, as we do not want to be subjected to a bus excursion schedule. Would you please indicate driving time?
