Day Trips
OK, another question! We will be staying for 4 nights on Mykonos, Ios, and Santorini, plus 5 nights on Crete. Are there other islands other than Delos that you would recommed for a day trip? We want to see as much as we can but my hubby does not like moving every 2 days from hotel to hotel which is why we are staying 4 days at least in each place. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

During summer there are many ships and catamarans that connect Mykonos with nearby Syros . The trip is about 1/2 an hour by high speed ships . The port of the island Ermoupolis is the capital of the Cyclades .
Ermoupolis used to be the main greek port during the 19th century so there are plenty of neoclassical buildings . There was a lot of wealth concetrated and that can been seen in the neighbourhood 'Vaporia'. Visit the cathedral (St. Nikolas) and if you like swimming in deep blue waters just search for those lovely spots behind the church (not a beach just cement platforms for diving) . From the sea you'll admire the 100 year old mansions built on the rocks a few meters from the water . After your midday lunch in a nice taverna of the old town take a taxi and visit Ano Siros (or Upper Siros) the medieval settlement over Ermoupolis with nice cycladic architecture and beautiful view of ermoupolis . far away you can see the old shipyards . Note that Siros is not tourist oriented, but that is good news isnt?

The same car ferru that will take you from Santorini to Ios will continue on to Naxos and Paros. The Flying Dolphin travels this same route as well as to Mykonos and is much faster. You could take the car ferry in the morning and catch the Flying Dolphin back in the afternoon, giving yourself the most time to spend exploring the other islands.

The problem with day trips is that many of the islands don't have daily service at the same time every day, so making a return connection with enough time in between to enjoy yourself can be problematic.
That being said, there's a Tuesday morning ferry from Santorini to Folegandros, leaving at 8am and arriving on Folegandros at 11:30am, and returning to Santorini at 4:30pm arriving at 7:45pm. That gives you 5 hours maximum assuming the ferries are on time. Tinos is an easy hop from Mykonos and there are several boats each way every day, and the trip is a short one.
On Tuesday there's a 9:50am boat from Ios to Sikinos with a return at 5:20 giving you a maximum of 7 hours to have a look around.
As always, check for last-minute schedule changes to avoid problems.
