Day trip to Normandy from Paris?
Is it possible to take a day trip from Paris to Normandy to see the beaches from D-Day? Can a quick trip to Mont-St-Michel be fit in as well? What is the best way to get there? Are there trains or is renting a car easier? Thanks in advance for any advise.

I went to Normandy and Mont St. Michel last year. You really need to rent a car and stay overnight. We drove to Honfleur in the morning and had brunch there, then we drove and stopped along the beaches until dinnertime. Then we finally drove to Mt. St. Michel in the evening and stayed overnight at Le Mere Poulard. It was really amazing to stay on the Mont at night, kind of spooky, because there was really no one else there. The only thing is that you deprive yourself of the amazing approaching view of the Mont in daylight. It is great though because we woke up early and were the first in to see the abbey (it is closed at night). Then you can stop in places on the way home the next day, like Versailles or Rouen.

You need a car to see all the beaches and the American cemetary. The only problem we encountered was some road closures due to foot and mouth and that is not a problem anymore. Also, the Mont gets CRAZY crowded during the day, so you won't enjoy it that much if you come on a tour bus.

Have a wonderful trip.
